Word you hate the most: Is “can’t”, I strongly believe that it should be seen as an abbreviation for “can try” because people that use this word tend to stagnate and if there is still such individuals we will fail to grow as a nation.

What does radio mean to you: Radio presenting is not just a job, but my love for music was apparent from the age of nine; when other kids took their pocket money and bought playing cars, I saved mine and made a collection of music CDs.

What drives you: I’m driven by passion and dedication, so if one wants to have fun while learning a thing or two they must tune in between 10:00 and 01:00 weekends for the musical, vibrant, interactive and educational shows!

Gospel singer Vuyo Mokoena dies

SOUTH African gospel music icon Vuyo Mokoena died early Friday, a week after his second collapse at home where he was recovering from severe leukaemia, his record company announced.Big Fish Music said the star drew his last breath at 0530hrs.The Njalo star was first admitted to Johannesburg ’s Linksfield Hospital in March after suddenly blacking out at his home.He was diagnosed with leukaemia - a type of cancer that affects the white blood cells.Mokoena was discharged to recover at home.
But on Thursday last week, he was back in hospital, this time after going down with a severe headache. Doctors found he had a brain tumour.
A family spokesman, speaking at the time of his admission last week, said the award winning star was “awake and conscious of his surroundings, though he is very weak”.
“He is able to talk but his voice is deep and a bit hoarse, like somebody who has just woken up. His left eye is also a bit lazy but all of that is improving daily,” fellow gospel singer, Sipho Makhabane said, asking fans to pray for the star.
When he was first admitted in hospital, celebrity friends including Rebecca Malope rushed to his side.His wife, Tebogo, remembered: “We were sitting at home when he suddenly complained about stomach pains and I rushed him to hospital.”

Gospel singer’s deadly brain tumour

Top gospel singer, Vuyo Mokoena, was barely home resting from his chemotherapy treatment for leukaemia when he had to be rushed back to hospital. Mokoena who was recently diagnosed with leukaemia returned home but started to develop serious headaches. Medical tests have revealed that the gospel vocalist is suffering from a brain tumour. Doctors are unable to confirm whether the tumour is malignant or benign at this stage.The singer is said to be undergoing radiation treatment at the moment. Family members have asked friends and fans to give the family and the hospital space to work towards his recovery as he needs all the rest and prayers he can get right now.

10 Sep 2007. Performing to a crowd of 1500 screaming spectators at the finals of the Hennessy Artistry DJ Battle, Johannesburg local DJ Sai and Mother City spinner Codax took top honours at the Hennessy Artistry DJ Battle, winning the house and hip hop genres respectively.
Originally hailing from Soweto, DJ Sai defeated his rivals DJ Tallman from Durban and Ian Brink from Cape Town to win the house section, getting the crowd at Soweto’s Backroom venue on their feet with his pumping house beats. Capetonian Codax used his inventive scratching and keen crowd control to defeat Jozi’s Milkshake and East Coast DJ Pay-Per-Kut to take the hip hop genre.
“It’s been a long journey for these DJs,” says primary hip hop judge and local music icon, DJ Ready D. “They’ve beat some stiff competition to get to this point but both of them were hungry for the win. Their original mix of style, technique and sheer energy got them serious points with the judging panel and I hope this is another step towards a successful DJ career.”

INGOGO VILLAGE, South Africa (Reuters) - Thousands of fans bade an emotional farewell on Sunday to South Africa's top reggae star Lucky Dube, whose murder in an apparent botched carjacking stunned even a nation hardened to violent crime.
Rastafarians and members of the African Shembe Christian church to which Dube belonged were prominent in the crowds who thronged to his rural home for his funeral.
Local musicians and fans from across Africa sang hymns and paid tribute to South Africa's biggest-selling reggae singer and one of the country's most successful artistes.
His wife Zanele and children broke down in tears as one of Dube's best-known songs played over the loudspeaker at the public ceremony on his farm near the remote village of Ingogo, about 250 km (160 miles) southeast of Johannesburg.
The internationally acclaimed singer, who recorded 22 albums in English, Zulu and Afrikaans and won more than 20 awards in a 25-year entertainment career, was then buried in his garden in a private family ceremony.
The 43-year-old was shot dead in front of his children in a Johannesburg suburb on October 18. Five men have been arrested.
The high-profile killing prompted new calls for a crackdown on violent crime in South Africa, which has one of the highest crime rates in the world.
Police figures show there were nearly 20,000 murders in the year to the end of March, 2.4 percent up on the year before. The number of rapes, carjackings and assaults also remained high.
