Thebe

This man has been in the music business for the past! God knows how many years. And he is still dropping hits after hits.. When we think old school Kwaito this gentleman can show these young boys a thing or two.
He dropped the hit album Dia Boa (Ko Philly) back in the 90’s which made him are success overnight. Who am I talking about? Am talking about Kwaito sensation Thebe, but this days he is better known as “The Black Diamond”
When we talked to him about his new album Black diamond, and the reasons as to why he called it Black Diamond. He explained that he has because a full flashed business man, “I am a Black successful men and it is about time I show the world that.”
I have to say that Thebe definitely shows that he is on a league of his own. Who can blame he has been in this industry for years and he keep making good music, year after year? Black diamond has the hit songs like Ugezi,Ungan'bamba , Legayo ,Ayobaness and Zaiya.
In this album Thebe worked with producer Bruce Dope Sebitlo on this Album. Two have been insupportably for as long as we can remember. Thebe and Bruce worked together on his very first album Tempy life, almost 18 years ago. Together they have produced nine successful albums.
On this album Thebe has incorporated more dance music than Kwaito in this album and plans to perform live with, live musicians rather than his usual skanky dancers.
The album is great and it has that old school it will have you moving and shaking what your mother give you I have to give this CD a high 7/10.

Dj Pepsi

After being silent for quite sometime, Oskido’s younger brother, Nkululeko 'DJ Pepsi' Mdlongwa has done it again. Like his brother, the DJ has released a house installment, giving it the title, ‘Royal House Collection’. Hela, welcome to the Royal House Mense!
Even though the practice of licensing foreign house songs is still much alive locally, it is impressing that local house guns have seen the importance of including locally produced house tunes in their compilations. Like many other local DJs, Pepsi didn’t go wrong, together with the local underground house producer guru, Wandile ‘Master Wakes’ Zandeka, they have included a number of songs on this release. And guess what? One of the songs making noise at the moment is, ‘Pepsi’s Revenge’ [The Wakes Mix]. The tune has been doing the rounds on radios and you know moss, once the commercial radio stations start pumping a particular song, the rest is bound to follow.
With the cost of living gone mad, of people have become quite selective when it comes to the music they want to buy. And the same goes with recording labels who no longer sign artists that have not made a name for themselves. It is no surprise to me that Pepsi is one of the lucky few who Universal Music have chosen to invest in. A bonus is that Pepsi comes from the Mdlongwa family which includes the big dog Oskido and the up and coming and very promising young blood, Bobstar.
Apart from the local tunes that Pepsi has had a hand in, the project also features songs made by other music maestros from different parts of the land. The album features thirteen songs which vary from commercial to soulful deep tunes. There are some really killer vocal songs like, ‘Love Forever More, Amen’ that flows well through the veins. There is also one chilled tune that is promising to make some noise titled, ‘Medusa’.
As for this album’s sleeve, well, what can brother Phash says? Like I always preach, how the sleeve looks says a lot about what the album has to offer. This boils down to taking every single aspect of the project seriously. So they say, before you expect anyone to take you seriously, you gotta ensure that you are serious with yourself first. And in regard to this, brother Pepsi has done his best to make sure that everything is in order before this project could be released. Good one

DJ Clock: The First Tick

Its amazing how creativity is perceived in the music world, one man’s cream could be another man’s trash. That’s exactly what I thought as I settled to review this album, ‘The first tick’ by DJ Clock. Forgive me if you disagree, but I think his first ‘tick’ is a very positive step into his career.
Clock’s debut album appears a bit lukewarm and an ordinary type of project, but it has undoubtedly put his footprints on the local music landscape. His touch in music production carries all it takes to worry other house producers and perhaps even give them a few sleepless nights.
The young man’s breakthrough should be an inspiration to other potential music producers who are working hard towards hitting the spot. DJ Clock says he self-taught himself every studio recipe he knows. After achieving very little at school, he decided to follow up on his studio dream and when he saw the space, he squeezed in with a 14 track house album that could leave you gasping for more.
I must say my first experience with DJ Clock’s music wasn’t that moving at all, I used to see the young man at gigs around the country but I have always waited anxiously to grab a studio addition of his work.
One track that stands a great chance of blowing away house fans is loaded on the second slot of the project and is titled ‘umahamba yedwa’. Carrying with it, some unusual elements in the genre of house music, the track goes further than just snatching up the temperature of the offering. With its crispy hi-hats, pumping bass lines and seductive strings, you would think it’s a rave jam until a few seconds later when the song suddenly changes down into ‘house’ gear.
I have always had a harsh opinion when it comes to renditions but I think this time I can be justified for damning Clock’s rendition of Mika’s “Relax, Take it easy”. The idea of doing one should be to make it better than the original track or at least different. Failure to do that will just attach some clumsy elements to the project and give critics much room to hit hard on you.
But overall, its a rocking album that is worth a grab to any music fan.

Criminals are NOT COOL so why lie about doing time? He may not have done the crime but according to SUNDAY WORLD, Mandoza thinks he’s much more marketable if he has a past behind bars! He has often told newspapers, SABC TV channels and radio stations that he was arrested for car theft and incarcerated for one- and-a-half years at Diepkloof prison (Sun City) in Jozi. He’s also said he was a rehabilitated ex-convict and had abandoned his sordid past. But SUNDAY WORLD has revealed that Mandoza didn’t spend any time in that cross-bar hotel – or any other, for that matter. The Department of Correctional Services has confirmed that Mandoza, born Mduduzi Tshabalala (born on January 7 1978), is not listed in their system.Mandoza’s confession was all just hype to generate more publicity for his macho-man image, something that American gangsters such as DMX and Akon have also done unsuccessfully! But this story doesn’t end here. Mandoza may be closer to experiencing life behind bars sooner than he thinks if the award-winning muso is charged and convicted of reckless and negligent driving after an accident that left two young people dead.
